Solar grant calculator for Ireland

Three schemes, three sets of rules. Pick what fits and see what the published rates are worth for your project, with the sums shown.

Rates correct at time of publication (4 November 2026). Confirm on the SEAI scheme page before you commit.

A kWp (“kilowatt-peak”) is the array’s rated capacity: its peak power under standard test conditions. What it actually produces over a year is measured in kWh. Typical Irish homes install 2–6 kWp, roughly 5–14 panels. Don’t know yours yet? Leave it at 4. Most systems reach the grant cap there.

SEAI Solar PV Grant

  • You own the home (landlords can apply too), and it was built and occupied before 2025
  • A BER assessment is done after the installation. There is no minimum rating
  • The installation is carried out by a company on SEAI’s registered list

Your grant

€1,800

You apply to SEAI before any work starts. We guide the application and handle the installer, grid-notification and completion paperwork. On Fuel Allowance or certain other payments? You may get the enhanced grant: up to €9,000. See who qualifies.

Source: SEAI Solar Electricity Grant: rates €700/kWp (first 2 kWp), €200/kWp (up to 4 kWp), capped at €1,800.

The cost of the solar PV investment as approved under TAMS. The grant rate applies against a ring-fenced ceiling of €90,000. Spend above that is not grant-aided.

Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3

  • Systems grant-aided up to 62 kWp; battery eligible, capped at a capacity equal to 50% of the array’s rated size in kWp
  • Cannot be combined with the SEAI Non-Domestic grant for the same investment
  • Remaining 2026 closing date: 4 December 2026

Your grant

€24,000

Your farm advisor lodges the TAMS application, and we supply the system specs, quotes and documentation it needs, and approval must be in place before installation.

Source: Solar Capital Investment Scheme (DAFM): 60% of eligible cost against a €90,000 ceiling, maximum €54,000.

Covers the full scheme, 1 kWp to 1000 kWp. The amount per kWp falls as the system gets bigger. These are the doubled rates for applications made by 6 July 2027.

SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme grant by system size
1 kWp€1,800
2 kWp€3,600
3 kWp€4,200
4–6 kWp€4,800
7–20 kWp+€600 per extra kWp
21–200 kWp+€400 per extra kWp
201–1,000 kWp+€300 per extra kWp

SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme

  • Businesses, farms, schools, public bodies, sports clubs, community groups and non-profits
  • The building is a non-domestic premises in Ireland with its own MPRN
  • The installation is carried out by an SEAI-registered company

Your grant

€13,200

SEAI pays this figure or 45% of the installed cost, whichever is lower. Farms can use this scheme or TAMS, but not both on one project. We work out which is worth more for yours.

Source: SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme: 1 kWp €1,800 · 4–6 kWp €4,800 · 20 kWp €13,200 · 200 kWp €85,200 · 1,000 kWp €325,200. Every band boundary in this calculator is covered by an automated test that runs on each build.

Grant questions, answered straight

How is the SEAI home solar grant calculated in 2026?
€700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per kWp up to 4 kWp, capped at €1,800. A 4 kWp system or larger gets the full €1,800. A battery of 5 kWh or more adds €600. Homeowners on Fuel Allowance and certain other payments get the enhanced grant instead: up to €8,400 for panels, €9,000 with a battery.
Who applies for the grant, me or the installer?
You apply to SEAI for the grant offer, and no work can start before it is issued. We guide you through the application and handle the installer, grid-notification and completion documents.
What is the maximum solar grant for a farm?
Under TAMS 3, solar is grant-aided at 60% against a ring-fenced investment ceiling of €90,000, so a maximum grant of €54,000, for systems up to 62 kWp.
What is the SEAI business solar grant worth?
Under the Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme the grant is stepped: 1 kWp €1,800; 2 kWp €3,600; 3 kWp €4,200; 4–6 kWp €4,800; 7–20 kWp +€600 per extra kWp; 21–200 kWp +€400 per extra kWp; 201–1,000 kWp +€300 per extra kWp. So 1 kWp is €1,800, 4–6 kWp is €4,800, 20 kWp is €13,200, 200 kWp is €85,200, 1,000 kWp is €325,200, and the €325,200 maximum is reached exactly at 1000 kWp. These are the doubled rates for applications made between 6 October 2026 and 6 July 2027. SEAI pays the table figure or 45% of the invoiced cost, whichever is lower.
